As a tribute to inspirational Italians, we name rooms in honor of their contributions to history. We believe that acknowledging the past and paying respect to these selected individuals is our way of showing appreciation. While many Italians have left a mark on society, we chose three who exemplify dedication and hard work. Alessandro Manzoni (90-200 People) an Italian poet and novelist, developed a passion for poetry at fifteen. In 1805, he joined his mother after the death of his father The next two years, he made his public appearance with Urania and another piece on the death of Count Carlo Imbonati, from whom he inherited property, including the villa of Brusuglio. In 1818, Manzoni had to sell his paternal inheritance because he lost money to a dishonest agent. Manzoni’s generosity prevailed when dealing with peasants indebted to him. Although he had lost money, he not only cancelled records of sums owed, but he also demanded that they keep the whole maize harvest. The following year, Manzoni published Il Conte di Carmagnola, his first tragedy. When Napolean died in 1821, Manzoni created Il Cinque Maggio, the most popular lyric in the Italian language. Other works included The Betrothed Promessi Sposi, which brought him to the first rank of literary fame. At the time of Manzoni’s death, Verdi wrote in honor of his memory.
